Joanna brings her passion and proven skills to help organisations realise their potential. She has a strong intellect combining rigorous analysis with assured intuition, substantial experience in leading organisations, and an engaging approach that builds trust and collaboration.


Joanna provides tailored, practical services in strategy, design and performance. She has particular strengths supporting governance and senior leaders in strategic growth. She is also an experienced programme manager, with a track record of delivering results in complex multi-stakeholder environments.


Joanna’s advice is drawn from a rich perspective built through her connections across community, national and international arenas. She brings experience at chief executive and governance levels, and knowledge of international good practice.


Operating in global and multi-cultural networks, Joanna knows how to harness the benefits of diversity. She understands both Auckland and the Wellington central public service, and is able to translate between them.


Prior to joining MartinJenkins, Joanna was Chief Executive of the New Zealand Human Rights Commission for two five-year terms, growing the Crown entity from an anti-discrimination body to the country’s first broad-based national human rights institution. She managed the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, developing it from a loose network to an aligned organisation, influential within the United Nations. Joanna is Co-Chair of Oxfam New Zealand and a member of Oxfam’s International Board of Supervisors, governing a global transformation programme.


Joanna has an MA and a BA from Oxford University (UK) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
